A new report by the American Heart Association says a major portion of the cost of treating patients with the disease could be between $2 and $2.5 million.
“The number of Americans with heart disease is expected to double by 2050 and more than double by 2040,” the report said.
“There is no reason for us to continue to spend more than half a billion dollars on treatments that may not have the most impact.”
The heart disease has become a major health crisis for many Americans.
According to a 2016 Gallup poll, 45 percent of adults said they were very or somewhat concerned about heart disease.
A recent report from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute found that among all Americans, the percentage of people with heart failure increased from 12.8 percent in 2015 to 15.2 percent in 2019.
